Objective: The major goal of these sketches is not to intimidate the participants by striving for “ideal” and “perfect” drawing standards, but to help them to improve their individual skills and to broaden their consciousness toward the diversity and variety of shapes, structures and textures which can be found in a natural environment. The drawing process should be experienced as an intensive preoccupation full of excitement and suspense. Furthermore it should encourage you to find individual ways of expressing your fantasy and imagination. Make the secrets productive!
Study structures and patterns in nature (using different drawing tools like pencil, charcoal, chalks, felt-tip pen, brushes, “china marker”, bamboo sticks, ink, sepia, coffee, juices, etc.) - Use light and shade, the famous “chiaroscuro” (Ital.) and different perspectives to enhance the sense of 3D - Lay out compositions, sketch details, do emotional and fast gesture drawings, explore a variety of lines, and hatchings. Artists to Look at: Line drawings by Vincent Van Gogh Techniques: Explore different techniques, which are known from the art history (for example “Impressionism”, “Surrealism”) - Make experiments: Use leaves, tree bark or other things with a rough-textured surface to create “Frottages”, use all kinds of papers and materials to draw on. Something out of the ordinary can add an extra zip: make new discoveries
